Atlantis Elementary School Featured in “Great School Culture” Book

Schools that nurture students while demanding high performance and focus on character development dramatically increase student achievement, according to a groundbreaking new book, On Purpose: How Great School Cultures Form Strong Character, by renowned author and education leader Samuel Casey Carter.

“On Purpose” details the secrets of success from twelve schools that have overcome significant obstacles to provide children with effective educational environments—providing a roadmap to success that principals and school leaders across the country can follow.  One of the schools featured is Atlantis Elementary School from Brevard County.

Each school profiled “… far exceed the national performance levels for the populations they serve,” Carter writes.  Atlantis Principal, Sherry Tomlinson, adds, “This is a testament to the Atlantis Port St. John community at large.  We are a family who all work together for the individual success of each learner here at Atlantis.  The pillars of character (respect, responsibility, citizenship, trustworthiness, caring, and fairness) are our foundation at Atlantis.  Our Superintendent, Dr. Binggeli, places a priority on creating a positive culture and guides the support for us to thrive.  I am most proud of our teamwork and feel honored that Atlantis is featured in Mr. Carter’s book.”
