Central Middle School has a strong partnership with their parents. The focus of this partnership is positive behavior support and academics. Currently there are 130 active parent members. Communication is frequent during bi-weekly Wednesday morning meetings, once a month parent nights, and weekly e-mails. The P.I.T. members provide support to teachers, counselors, support staff, and administration. The parent members are visible on campus at all times of the day wearing red Parent Involvement Team t-shirts. The members help during the morning supervision between breakfast, dismissal, and during lunch hours. They have become a valuable support to the school. They provide support to front office staff, chaperone during field trips, tutor students or help in after school activities and clubs. The parent members are active partners in decision-making and policy changes at their school. Any parent who was concerned about the possibility of volunteering in middle school, soon had their fears dispelled. They discovered that their support would not only be needed but would inspire student success.
Mrs. Linne Woodroff active Parent Involvement Team member commented on this exciting new initiative, “Picture it; your children are going off to middle school and you think they don't need you as much as they did in elementary school... WRONG. They need you even MORE even if they don't act like they do. At Central Middle School a parent team was put together to help foster volunteer involvement and be visible in their bright red P.I.T. shirts.”
The team is working to bridge the gap between the home, school, parents, teachers, etc. so everyone can work together supporting all children during this middle school phase.
Please see Ms. Sonia Guerao, Guidance Counselor for more details and to join the P.I.T. crew! We look forward to seeing you in red helping out around campus.
