Endeavour Elementary Boys to Men Night

Endeavour Elementary boy students had the opportunity to attend a dinner and program with their fathers or other significant male role models on February 17, 2011.  Endeavour’s fourth annual “Boys to Men” night celebrated and supported adult/child relationships, while encouraging all to persevere in their paths to be productive citizens.

Testimonials from Endeavour’s First grade teacher and single father, Mr. Larkin, and MSGT Rodney Huffman from the United States Air Force, encouraged both boys and men to follow the right path and not be swayed by poor choices and role models.  They encouraged the men to lead by example, spend quality time with their children, and remember that being there for them will make a difference in their children’s life.  Boys were encouraged to always do the right thing –even when no one is looking (thereby using the LIFESKILL of Integrity) -- as well as always doing their best, regardless of whether it was schoolwork, cleaning their rooms, or making a difference in the life of others. Both gentlemen shared how their life experiences helped make them the men they are today. They explained that everyone is a role model for others (good or bad), but it is up to them to choose what type of example they want to be.

The women of Endeavour and community volunteers organized and served the dinner provided by IAP World Services.  The  highlights of the evening included a surprise show featuring a step dance by the Endeavour male faculty members, and amazing door prizes (computers and bikes) donated by Eckerd Youth Alternatives and the Sharing Center.

With over 200 people attending, the fourth annual Endeavour Boys to Men’s night was quite a success and another step in promoting community partnerships and developing future citizens.
