Brevard County School District (BPS) sixth grade students take top honors among their peers and rank first in Florida for both reading and mathematics as reflected by today’s release of the 2010 FCAT scores. BPS 10th grade students rank second among their peers across the state for both reading and mathematics.
BPS continues to be one of the highest performing districts in the state. In reading, BPS is in the top seven of 67 districts in the state at all grade levels (grades 4-10), including first in sixth grade and second in 10th grade. In mathematics, BPS is in the top 11 of 67 districts in the state at all grade levels (grades 4-10), including first in sixth grade and second in 10th grade. In science, BPS is second in Florida for fifth grade, third in Florida for 11th grade and fifth in Florida for eighth grade.
“Overall, these results represent continued strong performance in each of our subject areas,” said Superintendent, Dr. Brian T. Binggeli. “This is particularly true at the secondary level where reading and math tests posted the highest proficiency scores in the history of the tests. We are proud of the efforts and accomplishments of our students and staff.”
This year’s results also show improvements in mean scale scores: improvement was shown in nine of 17 areas; a decline was shown in only three areas, while five areas remained the same. Schools will contact parents with information regarding the availability of student scores. Individual student score reports are expected to arrive in the district by the second week of July.
