Jody Scott Takes Top Honors

Employee of the Year

Mrs. Jody Scott was named the Employee of the Year for Brevard Public Schools at a breakfast award ceremony presented by the Brevard Schools Foundation in December.  Ninety-three nominees were recognized. Scott, a 19-year veteran of Brevard Public Schools, was selected for the top award from a group of six finalists from schools/departments throughout the district.  Scott is an office clerk at Eau Gallie High School.
“It is an honor to publicly recognize Ms. Scott and the 92 additional nominees for their collective energies on behalf of the students we serve,” said Superintendent, Dr. Brian T. Binggeli.  “These individuals keep the wheels turning.  They clearly demonstrate the benefits of working together for the greater good.”

The other five Employee of the Year finalists included:  Michelle Grimes, an Instructional Assistant at Atlantis Elementary; Kathryn Arvonio, Telecommunications Specialist from Educational Technology; Gray Boot, a Title I PreK Instructional Assistant at Endeavour Elementary; Recheal Hartmann, Master Certified Head Custodian I from Viera High; and Terri Harmon, Administrative Secretary in the Office of Elementary Programs.

“Ms. Scott is a very special employee who always puts others first,” said former Eau Gallie principal, Tom Sawyer. “Jody is more than an employee. She is what we want all our students to be.”

Additionally, Joseph Ferrante, Satellite Beach Mayor, says, “It’s easy to see why Jody was one of the top six candidates to represent the county. Her untiring efforts in everything she does guarantees not only Eau Gallie High School, but Brevard County Schools have selected the best school staff and community leader to represent them.”

Ms. Scott tearfully thanked the Lord and her family for allowing her to do what she was meant to do and for being supportive in all her activities.  She went on to thank former Eau Gallie High School Principal, Tom Sawyer, by saying, “Thank you so much Mr. Sawyer for giving me the opportunity to work in many different areas and for always being supportive of my ideas.” She closed by expressing her gratitude to her fellow staff at Eau Gallie High, “A great team to work with.”

Employee of the Year nominees are chosen by their school or department and their applications are sent to a selection committee who narrows the field to six finalists. This committee reviews the written nominations and chooses those they believe contribute most significantly to improvements at their school sites or within the district.
