4-Day Work Week 4-Summer

Brevard Public Schools (BPS) announced that it will implement a 4-day work week for its employees during the summer of 2010.  The four-day, 10-hour day work week schedule will be seven weeks in duration, beginning on Friday, June 4, and extending through Friday, July 23.

As part of the district’s cost savings initiatives, closing facilities on the seven Fridays during the summer is projected to save the district $100,000 in energy reductions.  At the April 13 School Board Budget Workshop, Dr. Binggeli announced recommended reductions to the school district’s budget.  For the 2010-11 school year, BPS is projecting a $12.7 million cut in funding to its operating budget.

Under the new summer schedule, employees will work 10-hours a day, Monday through Thursday.  All schools and district offices will be closed on the seven Fridays with limited exceptions as outlined below.
