You might say the new “Shade Structures” at Shadowlawn Elementary are giving students and teachers the “Chills” and its all thanks to Park Avenue Dermatology and the school’s Parent/Faculty Association (PFA). Park Avenue Dermatology is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, which gives what are called “Shade Structure Grants.” These grants help fund permanent structures that will protect children from ultraviolet rays and provide them shade for outdoor activities.
“This project would not have been possible without the generosity and support of the American Academy of Dermatology’s $8,000 grant, plus a donation of $16,000 from the SLE PFA,” says Jeff Umbaugh, SLE Principal. “These structures make Shadowlawn a safer place to play and exercise, and everyone here at SLE is so thankful for a way to escape the hot sun during outdoor activities.”
“All of us at Park Avenue Dermatology are thrilled that the American Academy of Dermatology chose a local school to receive this award,” says Thomas Balestrieri, MBA, Park Avenue Dermatology.
Mr. Umbaugh and the PFA recently held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to show off the new shade structures and to express their heartfelt thanks to all involved.
