Play 60 Super School!

Middleburg Elementary has a passion for football and everyone at MBE absolutely loves those Jaguars!  For the second year in a row, the school won a $10,000 grant from the NFL Play 60 Campaign for its team spirit and for its focus on keeping kids active. “We are so grateful to the NFL and to the Jacksonville Jaguars,” says Becky Wilkerson, MBE Principal.

Middleburg Elementary is one of only a few schools in the U.S. to be named a “Play 60 Super School.”  One award is given in each NFL market, along with two at-large winners.  The program is designed to tackle childhood obesity.  The goal is to keep kids active for at least 60 minutes a day.

During last month’s school assembly, Jaguars Player Kassim Osgood, #81, and his mother were on hand to present the giant check to the school and to talk to the students about the importance of health and wellness.  “I have a lot of coaches on the field, and my mother is my coach off the field,” said Osgood.

Middleburg Elementary plans to use year’s grant to create a fitness trail and form an after-school fitness club.

Congratulations to Howard Davidson, as well, who was chosen by MBE as their “Play 60 Super Parent.”  For the 3rd year, Proctor & Gamble has partnered with the NFL Play 60 to recognize parents in local communities for their efforts to keep children active.
