OPE Student Wins Spelling Bee

Savannah Olson, a 6th grade student at Orange Park Elementary, will represent Clay County in the regional Spelling Bee, after winning the county Spelling Bee last month. Savannah was one of 36 students who participated in the event. She spelled the word “evacuation” to win in round 13. Three students tied for second place – Radith Ekanayake of Fleming Island Elementary, Aubrey Townsend of R.M. Paterson Elementary and Kerra Roxas of Thunderbolt Elementary.

The Regional Spelling Bee will take place on February 19 in Jacksonville. The winner of that will advance to the State Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in May.
