Former NFL Player Motivates Biltmore Elementary Students

Devon McDonald, a former linebacker with the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals, now a representative from Sports World, Inc., recently visited Biltmore Elementary to give a powerful and inspirational message full of hope and guidance about making good choices.

McDonald, who is originally from Jamaica, shared his story of growing up as a student athlete and the struggles he faced.  McDonald’s high school football team went from zero wins one year to the state championship the following year, which he credits to him and his team members stepping up and taking responsibility for the success of the team.

“When you are in school or on the field, aim to be the very best and don’t quit. Take responsibility for your actions,” he said.

The former NFL player also shared a story about his struggle with alcohol and drugs, and how it negatively affected his football career and personal life, eventually leading to his dismissal from his team.  He encouraged the students to never try drugs or alcohol.

McDonald’s life was turned around when he took responsibility for his actions and relied on his faith to get him through.

For more than 30 years, the Sports World program has helped students make positive choices and encouraged them to get help for their problems. Professional athletes visit students around the country and challenge them to set positive goals and take responsibility for their choices.
