Congratulations to the Ribault High School MCJROTC (Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) Female Physical Fitness Team who has been selected to attend the 2010 National High School Physical Fitness Championships in San Diego from May 13-15.
Created by the U.S. Marines Youth Foundation, the National Youth Physical Fitness Program provides a mental, moral and physical challenge, and establishes reachable goals for students. The program is designed to teach kids at an early age about the importance of staying healthy and promotes a "Fitness for Life" message.
During their competitions, students compete in a total of five different timed events, including sit-ups, push-ups, the standing long jump, pull-ups and a 300-yard shuttle run.
The Ribault Lady Trojans Female Physical Fitness Team was selected for placing first in both state and regional competitions, and for placing fifth out of 232 MCJROTC programs.
Ribault’s team will represent the entire state of Florida, as well as the second region, which consists of 49 MCJROTC programs. Team members are Genesis Towles, Cora Mcleod, Jessica Patterson, Whittney Neavins and Kimarri Fulton. They are coached by First Sergeant Anthony E. Landrum and their principal, Master Sergeant James R. Smith II.
The National High School Physical Fitness Championships are held in San Diego each spring, and can accommodate up to 100 teams (the top 50 male and female teams in the country). All teams heading to nationals will have the trip to San Diego funded by the U.S. Marines Youth Foundation, Inc.
