Holiday Hill Elementary Receives the Project Learning Tree Certification

Holiday Hill Elementary was recently awarded the Project Learning Tree (PLT) certification. PLT is a national award-winning environmental education program for educators and students in Pre K-grade 12. Topics in this program range from forests, wildlife and water, to community planning, waste management and energy. Holiday Hill is one of only 13 schools in the state of Florida and is the only school in Duval County to receive this honor.

Principal Susan Chick says, "The program is great because it not only encompasses Sunshine State Standards for science, but also for math, language arts and reading."

In order to receive the certification, Holiday Hill teachers had to complete training sessions where they learned activities they then had to implement in their own classrooms.

The award was presented at Holiday Hill's Reading Kickoff Event with the entire school and parents in attendance. The school was presented with a banner and a "Learning Tree Trunk," which contained various learning tools for students to use for hands-on activities.

They concluded the event with a song from the students to kick off their reading goals for this school year. Students waved books in the air as they sang and danced along to "Gotta Keep Reading."
