Revolutionary Soldiers Visit A. Philip Randolph Academies of Technology

Uniformed soldiers from the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR) spent time at A. Philip Randolph Academies of Technology to present a history of the Stars and Stripes.

NSSAR members, dressed in their revolutionary war uniforms and led under the direction of Dick Cardell, presented 11 of the most prominent U.S. flags from throughout history, and addressed questions from the students about the flags.

“This chronology of the American flag will provide students with a unique glimpse into our heritage,” said teacher Daniel Flint.

As a fourth-year social studies teacher, Flint is bringing some of his family history to the students. His grandmother was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which inspired him to become a member of NSSAR.

The Sons of the American Revolution is a fraternal society organized in 1889 for the male lineal descendents of patriots who served to promote the goals of freedom and independence.
