Senator Thrasher Spends Time with Mayport Middle Students

Students from Mayport Middle recently attended the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve and had the opportunity to meet Senator John Thrasher during an environmental roundtable discussion. The students were able to ask him a variety of questions and then presented him with a school shirt.

The GTM Research Reserve is dedicated to the conservation of natural biodiversity and cultural resources through research and monitoring to guide science-based stewardship and education strategies.

During their visit, the students participated in interactive field studies that included measuring water salinity/turbidity, air and water temperatures, wind direction and speed, finding the latitude/longitude with GPS, and dissolved oxygen/pH.
