More than 30 students from Highlands Middle School were recently given the gift of sight when they received new glasses, thanks to a grant by Baptist Community Health.
The students were taken to the Optometry Department at the Walmart on Lem Turner Road and received free eye exams. About a week later, their eye glasses, also paid for by the grant, were delivered to the school. They were fitted and adjusted on the students by an optometry representative from the Walmart.
According to Highlands instructional coach Sheryl Dumont, the students were “very excited and thankful about receiving their glasses, which will enable them to see much better than they did before.”
Highlands Middle was among several middle and high schools chosen to be recipients of the grant, which was coordinated through Jean Ribault Full Service School.
