"Absent" not in their vocabulary

Two graduating seniors in Marion County Public Schools know what it means to always be there, especially when it comes to class.

Kassandria Barone graduates from Lake Weir High this Wednesday and has the highest attendance rate in the district -- she’s never missed a single day of class during 13 years in local public schools!  In 1997, she enrolled in Marion County as a kindergarten student at Emerald Shores Elementary.  This 18-year-old also attended Greenway Elementary, Lake Weir Middle, and then Lake Weir High.  She’s the daughter of Carmine and Laura Barone of Ocala.

Devannand Persad enrolled in the district in 2001 as a fourth grader at College Park Elementary and advanced to Howard Middle and then West Port High.  He’s never missed a day of school in nine years.  At 18 years old, he graduates from West Port High this Thursday.  He’s the son of Jaichand and Tar Persad of Ocala.

Marion County Public Schools recognizes these students for their dedicated and consistent efforts to always attend school and their outstanding emphasis on a complete education.
