A shout out to some of the best and brightest

Michael Hughes, a senior at West Port High School. Michael has received an appointment to the U. S. Military Academy at West Point.

Gretchen McMillan, a senior at West Port High School. Gretchen was named to the FHSAA All State Academic Team. Gretchen is the daughter of Denham and Alicia MacMillan. She has a 4.0 grade point average and ranks second in a senior class of 392 students. Gretchen earned varsity letters in cross country, volleyball and track & field all four years of high school, and earned three letters in weightlifting. She plans to attend Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers and study biology.

Our athletes and coaches at Vanguard High School – the Florida High School Athletic Association currently has ranked Vanguard number 9 in the top ten schools throughout the State for Class 4A. Our girls’ program is ranked number 5 for Class4A. Great job athletes and coaches! Awards are based on the school’s finish in the FHSAA State Series.

Tyshara Dickerson at Ocala Springs Elementary (Patricia Evans, teacher), Donald Ray at Dr. N.H. Jones Elementary (Courtney Lewis, teacher) and Addis Mezini at Maplewood Elementary (J. C. Tanous, teacher). These students are the Read to Scoot Challenge winners for 2010. This event was sponsored by the Marion Education Association and was held during the Read Across America event at the Marion County Public Library.

Each winner will receive a Razor Scooter and helmet. Teachers will receive a Staples Gift card.
