Andrew McGuire, husband of Marion County Public Schools’ homeless student liaison Suzanne McGuire, is a teacher at Belleview Elementary who has been on military leave since early last summer to serve in Iraq. A former Marine, he is a member of the National Guard and has been serving as Staff Sergeant with the 779th Engineering Battalion out of Tallahassee. His battalion got home last week and there was a ceremony at the Tallahassee armory on last Monday morning with the Governor, Lt. Governor and the General Adjutant of the National Guard. We are pleased that Andy has recently arrived safely back in Ocala and will return to fifth grade at Belleview Elementary next year. In honor of his sacrifice this year, we will be recognizing him on morning TV on Wednesday, June 2nd at 7:45 followed by a short presentation on our back field around 8:00 a.m. where all the children and staff can show their pride and appreciation for his service to our country. The school will present him with a plaque and Superintendent Jim Yancey plans to attend and briefly speak.
